Electronic Media Secure Disposal Service
UF requires the destruction of data on electronic equipment being disposed, transferred or reused. This includes all forms of electronic media, such as hard drives, solid-state and flash drives, tapes, and devices with built-in storage.
Media that is to be reused must be sanitized in a manner that makes access to previously stored data impossible. Information on specific requirements and techniques in the Control of Electronic Media policy and the Media Sanitization Standard.

Media dropoff is self-service. To complete a dropoff, you will need to enter your information into the kiosk computer at the dropoff site. You will need to enter the quantity for each of: CDs/DVDs, Floppies/Zip disks, Computer tapes, Audio/Video tapes, and Other media. For hard disks, you will need to scan the serial and model number barcodes (using the provided scanner) for each. You can submit a maximum of 20 hard disks per form. After completing the form, deposit the media and hard drives into the appropriately labeled secure bins.
The Degaussing machine is located at the workroom in the UF Data Center at the East Campus located at 2060 NE Waldo Road. The device will be available for use Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

- Hard Drives (removed from a PC)
- Memory Sticks / USB Flash Drives
- Cell Phones / PDAs
- A/V Tapes
- Floppy Disks
- Camera Memory Cards
e-Media Secure Disposal Service CANNOT dispose of:
- Office Equipment
- Computer Equipment, such as PCs and Laptops
- Books, Binders, Class Notes and other paper products
